It took us over an hour to leave this beautiful town. Eleonora and Emanuela treated us all and made a very tasty lunch of cheese, chorizo ,tuna and tomato pintos. We ate this at a bar found by Dr John ‘pathfinder’ as he stormed ahead for most of the day as he transformed into Forest Gump of the Camino.
The day ended with over 5km of rain.
We arrived in 3 groups and found an Albergue . Interesting with only 2 showers… Quite basic to say the least.
We had dinner Restaurant Casanova in Estella (it felt like a deprived Basque country town)
We each bought a lottery ticket and agreed that we will share the winnings when it is drawn on 18th April.
We toasted farewell to our fantastic Italian friends as it was their last evening with us.
The first part of our Camino had come to an end and (taking into account the gradients) we had walked 90 miles in five and a half days.
… Feeling very sad that tommorow we have to make our way home.
What a great decision it was to do this Mark. It looks like you have a had a far more intersting week than most and I hope your wife doesn’t take it the wrong way that you are sad to be coming home. Well done mate! Look forward to whizzing through some pics with you on your return. Safe journey home all.
Dave
